Mary Woronov responds to Billy Name
Coming SoonTalkback Interviews

I began conducting interviews in 1997 for my book, Factory Made, and in 1999 I bought a digital video camera (a Sony TRV 900 and later a PD 150).
I began recording my conversations with Factory members, including Billy Name, Mary Woronov, Ronald Tavel, Taylor Mead, John Cale, Gerard Malanga, and many others. I initially did it for archival reasons (there will probably not again be such an in-depth archive of video interviews about the Silver Factory), but I soon became convinced that it should be a documentary.

As the Factory interviews stretched from 1997 to 2003, I became interested in the possibilities of interactive digital talkback, which is a key feature of this documentary. Talkback = on a second round of interviewing, the Factory subjects respond directly to one another via video clips. The story of the Silver Factory is different for each of the participants, and this form reflects the subjectivity of memory, as well as the affection felt between Factory participants.
A half hour of the documentary-in-progress, Factory Made Conversations will be shown at BAM on October 28, 2003, at 7:30 PM, and I will introduce it. This rough cut is shaped to complement the BAM series of films, "Warholian World," and it focuses on making movies at the Silver Factory from 19631968.
