The Silver Factory, on the fourth floor of 231 East 47th Street, had been a hat factory. Warhol leased it in December 1963, and Billy Name began transforming the space in January 1964 by adding silver paint and silver foil to all the surfaces. The Silver Factory—the home to extraordinary activities—continued until January 1968, when the Factory moved to the sixth floor of 33 Union Square West.
