Nico was a fashion model from Germany who played a cameo role in La Dolce Vita in 1959, aspired to a singing career in the early 60’s and came to the Factory in late 1965, at the moment The Velvet Underground came into the Factory orbit. She performed with them for six months, then began performing solo, and became the Ur-mother of punk.
