Horace and Holly Solomon were early collectors of contemporary art by the mid-1960s, and Holly Solomon's subsequent enterprise with 112 Greene Street and the Holly Solomon Gallery reflected her adventurous spirit. In the summer of 1966, the Solomon's commissioned a multi-panel portrait of Holly, and this commissioned helped pay for the reels that would become The Chelsea Girls.
